Mercedes, despite a lackluster start to the 2024 season, has affirmed that they are on the right track in developing the W15. The team boss, Toto Wolff, stated that they have identified the areas that need improvement and are working on in-season upgrades for the car. While acknowledging the need for caution to avoid setbacks, Wolff expressed confidence in the team’s progress.
Wolff also acknowledged the advancements made by McLaren and Ferrari since last season. He noted McLaren’s significant progress race after race and their promising car concept in 2023. Similarly, Mercedes has been making gains step-by-step, much like the Scuderia.
Currently, Mercedes is in fourth place in the standings, trailing behind McLaren in third. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have struggled to achieve podium finishes this season, with Hamilton even calling it his worst-ever start in Formula 1. However, Wolff assured that the team will bring upgrades in the upcoming races.
In fact, Mercedes plans to introduce an update package for the next race in Canada to further enhance the W15 car concept. Additionally, they have more upgrades in store for the future. The team’s hopes of winning a race this season rely heavily on the success of these in-season upgrades. Wolff especially wants Hamilton to end his win drought before his rumored move to Ferrari next year. However, it remains to be seen if Mercedes can turn their fortunes around in the remaining races of 2024.
