RB Formula 1 driver Yuki Tsunoda has been fined €40,000, with half of the fine suspended, for using a derogatory term during qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix. Tsunoda expressed frustration over the radio about the queuing in the pitlane and another car merging into the fast lane ahead of him. He used offensive language, referring to the other drivers as “r*******”. The FIA stewards, including former grand prix winner Johnny Herbert, deemed the language used to be inappropriate and offensive, resulting in a breach of the International Sporting Code. Tsunoda apologized for his words, acknowledging that he was unaware of the connotations in English. He has offered to publicly apologize, leading to the suspension of part of the fine. The FIA’s decision to penalize Tsunoda for his language demonstrates their commitment to addressing such misconduct.
