The current Cup Series champion arrived at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday hoping to secure back-to-back victories after ending his winless streak at Iowa Speedway last week. Despite a strong race and running in second place with just nine laps remaining, his promising run was cut short.
While battling with Front Row Motorsports driver , he was wrecked into the wall, forcing him to settle for a finish outside the top-25. The No:34 Ford lost control as he attempted a risky move on Ryan Blaney. His car slid up the track and made contact with the team Penske Ford running on the outside lane.

Blaney, known for his outspoken radio rants despite being a calm person off the track, criticized his fellow Ford driver. He called the veteran a fool for making such a move at that stage of the race, and he continued to express his frustration in his post-race interview.
“What the heck did he think was going to happen there? … I know exactly what happened. He drove in there like a fool.” – Ryan Blaney
McDowell apologized to Blaney after the race, but Blaney was not satisfied with the apology, considering it a nice gesture but not enough to make up for what happened. He emphasized that the move McDowell made was unlikely to succeed and that it wasn’t worth taking both of them out of the race.
Blaney: “Apologies are nice but it isn’t going to bring back what he did. I knew what he was trying to do. It was a risky move. It was wet down there and he drove into it. What do you think is going to happen? You are going to take both of us out.”
The duel between the two drivers allowed to secure a redemptive victory after facing difficulties earlier in the weekend. The Ford duo of Blaney and McDowell was replaced by another Ford duo, as and of SHR claimed the podium positions.
