Baseball America’s draft content is supported by
As college baseball begins this weekend, it’s time to make some predictions.
In this article, I will highlight ten players in the 2024 draft class who have the potential to surpass their current draft rankings or emerge as impactful players in the draft.
Please note that this is not an exhaustive list and is based on conversations with scouts, firsthand observations, and analysis of available data. I have focused on breakout players and sleepers because some of the players mentioned are already well-known and likely to be considered in the early rounds, while others have the potential to climb into the top five rounds.
I will revisit this article after the 2024 draft to evaluate my predictions.
Garrett Shull, an outfielder from Enid (Okla.) HS, is ranked at No. 45.
Shull is a well-rounded hitter with solid bat speed from both sides of the plate, capable of hitting for both average and power. While he is already considered a top-50 prospect, he has the potential to climb higher if he can enhance his additional skills. Shull possesses above-average arm strength, making him suitable for either corner outfield position. If he improves his speed and showcases himself as a center fielder, his profile becomes even more impressive.
During the 2023 showcase season, Shull already displayed a well-developed and muscular physique. His inclusion in this list is not solely due to offseason improvements in the weight room, but rather because of his offensive abilities and the potential for him to be considered in the first round with slight enhancements in his speed and fielding.
