The NBA community was shaken to its core earlier on Wednesday.
According to a report by ESPN journalists Ramona Shelbourne and Adrian Wojnarowski, the Golden State Warriors, of all teams, actually attempted to acquire LeBron James through a trade.
The report reveals that Mike Dunleavy Jr. and the Warriors leadership tried to persuade James to join Stephen Curry in the Bay area, but this plan ultimately fell through.
In response to this news, Stephen A. Smith addressed the situation on First Take and confirmed the report, stating that it was LeBron’s agent, Rich Paul, who prevented the deal from happening.
However, Smith also suggests that this incident reflects LeBron’s growing frustration with the Lakers’ front office, particularly with Rob Pelinka, and not with team owner Jeanie Buss.
“It was a pleasant fantasy that did not become a reality,” Smith remarked.
Just imagine the prospect of LeBron and Curry playing together on the same team 🤯

Smith believes that James should have agreed to join forces with the greatest shooter in NBA history, as their playing styles perfectly complement each other. He views the failed trade as a missed opportunity for a dream partnership.
Contrary to LeBron’s desires, the Lakers did not make any moves during the trade deadline and only acquired Spencer Dinwiddie through the buyout market.
This decision could have far-reaching consequences, as James has the option to become a free agent next season. He may choose to take his talents elsewhere, where he can either compete for another NBA championship or team up with his son, Bronny, who will be eligible for the upcoming NBA Draft.
