It has been quite some time since the Pittsburgh Steelers were a genuine contender for the Super Bowl. The main reason for this is their struggles at the quarterback position. Ben Roethlisberger’s final seasons were not enjoyable to watch, and they have been unable to find a suitable successor since then. Looking ahead, the front office may be considering either Justin Fields or Russell Wilson to lead the offense next season. However, NFL analyst Chris Canty believes that prioritizing Wilson over the Chicago Bears QB would be the better choice. Speaking on the UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio show, Canty explained that Wilson’s passing skills would provide the Steelers with consistent and reliable quarterback play, something they have been lacking since Roethlisberger’s departure. Canty stated, “Russell Wilson gives you confident play at the quarterback position, according to NFL standards.” He also highlighted the fact that the three quarterbacks who started for the Steelers last season combined for only 13 passing touchdowns, while Fields has never thrown for more than 17 touchdowns in a single season. Canty acknowledged that Wilson may not be the player he once was, and the team may not be Super Bowl contenders with him. However, with Arthur Smith establishing a strong running game and a healthy defense, Wilson could make the Steelers a dangerous team. On the other hand, the Steelers may lean towards Fields due to his youth, as Wilson’s career may be winding down, and they would eventually need to find another quarterback.
