Ladies and gentlemen, the brand Porsche has long been associated with top-notch automotive performance, while Puma, the apparel company, has also made a name for itself in its own industry. Since 2019, these two renowned names have joined forces, and their latest collection of sports apparel, inspired by racing, is currently in high demand.
But this time, there is a new addition to the mix – professional basketball player LaMelo Ball. Together, these three names have collaborated to bring you the impressive gear showcased in the image gallery. Make sure to take a look before proceeding.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Puma and Porsche have collaborated on a collection of wearable items. In 2020, the two brands introduced a line of shoes inspired by the iconic 911 Turbo. The shoes, based on Puma’s Future Rider, were divided into two collections – “Air-Cooled” and “Water-Cooled” – and were limited to just 500 pairs across all sizes.
Since then, each new year has brought forth fresh and exciting gear, mostly in the form of sneakers, all drawing inspiration from Porsche’s rich history and incorporating Puma’s fashion expertise. Among the various collections, my personal favorite is the 2022 collection, which celebrates 50 years of the Carrera RS 2.7 and features the eye-catching Retro Sneaker from 2023.
In the current lineup, the focus once again lies on the 911 Turbo, serving as the inspiration for the range of items on display. However, it’s not just limited to shoes, although they are certainly the standout pieces. The collection also includes hoodies, jackets, t-shirts, sweatpants, shorts, the high-performance All-Pro Nitro sneakers, and, most notably, LaMelo Ball’s MB.03 variation featuring a striking bumblebee color scheme. This particular design is based on Puma and LaMelo’s previously released MB.03 platform. Since it is the highlight of the collection, let’s delve into the details.
The Porsche MB.03 boasts a sleek high-top design with a black sole that creates a bold contrast against the vibrant yellow background. As you move up the shoe, it appears as if a Puma has taken a fierce swipe at your feet, leaving its mark for all to see – but rest assured, you’ve managed to outrun it this time.
In keeping with LaMelo’s “01 of One” legacy, the Phoenix logo is featured on the tongue, while the heel counter proudly displays the iconic Puma logo at the top, followed by the inscription “M.E.L.O.” Below that, the word “Porsche” is written in the distinctive font of Porsche Design. Lastly, there is a thunderbolt symbol whose significance remains a mystery to me. Let’s not forget the “RA” on the sole of the MB.03s and the Porsche logo on the toe cap.
All these elements come together on a combination of materials, including leather, textile, rubber, and synthetics. The shoes are complemented by laces that match the color palette, Puma’s cutting-edge Hoops technology with Nitrofoam midsole, and they can be yours for $135 (€125 at the current exchange rate) on Puma’s official website.
Now, let’s not focus solely on the MB.03s, although we easily could; there are other great items in the lineup. For example, the All-Pro Nitro, another pair of shoes, also deserves recognition and is just as impressive as the other pumps.
In terms of appearance, the All-Nitro is slightly less adorned with logos and symbols and, in my perspective, appears suitable for any occasion. I would even pair it with the right suit, although some may consider that sacrilegious. The All-Nitro platform serves as a foundation for a few sleek black racing stripes (as I like to call them), displaying the words “Porsche” and “turbo,” along with the classic Puma logo on the tongue. With a few glossy black surfaces on the heel counter and sole, we have a straightforward, tidy, efficient shoe that is worth the $140 (€130) price tag found on Porsche’s website.
As for the rest of the collection, it includes three types of lower-body garments and three styles of upper-body pieces. Based on the images in the gallery, I must say that I particularly love the sweatpants and hoodies, and I would also pair the t-shirt with the sweatpants. Throw on the jacket adorned with logos, and I’m good to go. I can’t say I’m too enthusiastic about the shorts or pit-crew-like pants, but I’m sure there are people who will appreciate them.
All that’s left to do now is browse through our image gallery as if you’re shopping for this gear, imagine yourself wearing it, and then visit Puma’s or Porsche Design’s website. Just be aware that if this collection is anything like previous collaborations between Puma and Porsche, there’s a good chance it won’t be available next year. And if you do manage to find it somewhere, everyone will know that you’re late to the game, and in the world of fashion, being late is not ideal.
