In the current 2023-24 NBA regular season, the Boston Celtics are leading the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 43-12, which is presently the best record in the league.
As the top-ranked team in the East, every franchise in the conference is aiming to surpass or catch up with Jayson Tatum and his teammates in the remaining 30 games of the regular season.
During an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews during the All-Star Weekend, Tatum was asked about his opinion on the best player in the league at the moment, and he confidently declared himself as the answer.
“I consider myself the best,” Tatum stated. “While I have immense respect for many players in the league, such as Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic, who have both won MVPs, I firmly believe that whenever I step onto the court, I am the superior player.”
If other superstar-caliber players like Antetokounmpo, Jokic, and Embiid were asked the same question by Andrews, they would likely provide a similar response. It is understandable as they need that level of confidence to lead their respective franchises and reach their current positions in their NBA careers.
For Tatum, the pressure is on in Boston, especially after the team acquired Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday during the NBA offseason. The expectations have been higher than ever since he was drafted by the Celtics.
However, Tatum’s self-assurance will be crucial to the team’s future success.
