Aaron Pico is completely focused on his upcoming bout against Gabriel Braga at the PFL vs. Bellator: Champions event later this month. However, he is also aware of the potential opportunities that lie ahead beyond this fight.
Similar to many others, Pico (12-4), who has exclusively fought under the Bellator banner throughout his entire MMA career, finds himself uncertain about his future plans following PFL’s acquisition of Bellator. While he is fortunate to be part of the inaugural card in this new era for PFL, the outcome of his fight remains unknown in terms of how it will impact his career.
There are various intriguing paths that Pico could take moving forward, such as fighting under PFL’s reimagined Bellator brand, participating in a PFL season, or even appearing on a PFL pay-per-view. These possibilities offer exciting prospects for Pico’s future.
“When faced with such a significant decision and having multiple options to consider, it becomes a matter of figuring things out,” Pico expressed. He has always aspired to claim the Bellator title, but given the uncertainty surrounding the promotion’s long-term future, it remains uncertain if that dream will remain attainable. Nevertheless, Pico remains motivated as he knows he will always have something significant to strive for.
“Winning the Bellator belt is undoubtedly a major goal of mine,” Pico stated. “It’s something I’ve set out to achieve. However, my mindset now is that no matter where I end up, regardless of what happens, nothing is impossible. Wherever I find myself, I will strive to conquer it. Whether it’s fighting for a Bellator belt or a PFL belt, I will give my all. Only time will tell where that may be. My job is simple: win. Winning solves everything.”
At 27 years old, Pico is about to face one of the toughest challenges PFL has to offer on the PFL vs. Bellator card, scheduled for February 24 at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (available on ESPN+ pay-per-view). Braga (12-1) reached the finals of the 2023 PFL featherweight season before suffering a TKO loss to Jesus Pinedo. The 25-year-old Brazilian possesses unique skills that Pico must consider and prepare for on fight night.
“This is the most challenging test of my career,” Pico acknowledged. “He is young, younger than me, which is a first for me as I have usually fought opponents who are much older. He is an exceptional striker and skilled on the ground. It will be a great fight, and I am ready to test myself and emerge victorious.”
