German tennis star Alexander Zverev couldn’t believe his own joke when he found out that Lewis Hamilton was actually switching to Ferrari. Zverev had previously shared a video where he humorously introduced himself as Mercedes’ reserve driver and claimed he would replace Hamilton in the future. This video was featured in an episode of Netflix’s BreakPoint. After the news of Hamilton’s move broke, Zverev shared the video again, expressing his surprise and jokingly stating that he was ready to join the Mercedes F1 team. The post was even liked by Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc.
Despite not being able to join the Mercedes F1 team, Zverev is performing well in his own sport. He had a strong start to the 2024 season, helping his team win the United Cup. Zverev then had a successful run at the Australian Open, winning matches against Dominic Koepfer, Lukas Klein, and Alex Michelsen. However, his journey became tougher in the later rounds. He faced a challenging match against Cameron Norrie in the fourth round, eventually winning in five sets. In the quarterfinals, Zverev defeated Carlos Alcaraz to maintain his impressive head-to-head record against the Spaniard. Unfortunately, he couldn’t advance past Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals, leaving his quest for a maiden Grand Slam title unfulfilled.
