Cadillac and Andretti Global’s proposal to join the F1 grid for the 2024 season was rejected by FOM. However, Andretti remains determined to fulfill his dream of competing in F1 and has taken significant steps towards achieving this goal. One of these steps includes the establishment of a new research and development facility for Andretti’s F1 team at Silverstone.
Andretti-Cadillac initiated a new team application process in their attempt to secure a spot on the current F1 grid. The application received approval from the FIA, but the final decision rested with FOM, who ultimately rejected it. Despite these setbacks, Michael Andretti is unwavering in his pursuit of his dreams and has now opened a factory at Silverstone, employing 80 personnel.
The 61-year-old officially inaugurated the factory in Silverstone on Wednesday.
Despite being barred from entry until 2028, Andretti continues to seek approval from FOM. The establishment of the F1 factory at Silverstone adds to the sense of urgency in Andretti’s motorsport endeavors, potentially putting FOM in a challenging position.
It may raise questions as to why the US-based corporation chose to establish their factory in Europe, specifically in Britain. However, Andretti has a compelling explanation for this decision.
Andretti highlights the importance of Europe as a crucial continent for any F1 team. With the majority of F1 teams having their bases in Europe, particularly in Britain and Italy, it is essential for new teams to set up their factories on the continent in order to access skilled and experienced personnel. This makes Europe an appealing destination for emerging F1 teams.
Despite the establishment of the factory, there is no guarantee that Andretti will ultimately be granted entry into the F1 competition. The coming months will likely see further developments in Michael Andretti’s ongoing efforts to reach the pinnacle of motor racing.
