Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola acknowledges that the team must develop an improved motorcycle in order to attract top-tier riders in 2025, amidst speculation that they may sign Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo.
It is widely known that Aprilia has made significant strides in MotoGP in recent years, to the extent that they are now consistently competitive and capable of challenging for race victories.
Given that a number of riders have contracts set to expire, securing a high-profile signing could further propel the Italian team up the standings.
The most notable rumor surrounding Aprilia involves the potential acquisition of 2021 champion Quartararo, who has struggled on the factory Yamaha since last season.
The Frenchman has openly admitted to engaging in discussions with various manufacturers about his racing future in 2025, considering his current team’s lack of competitiveness.
However, Aprilia recognizes that their motorcycle must undergo further development in order to be considered a viable option for Quartararo or other standout riders on the market.
When asked about any contact between Aprilia and Quartararo, Rivola stated, “First and foremost, we are content with our current roster of four riders, but we are also actively exploring our options. We need to assess the market situation and proceed accordingly. Our primary focus is on improving our motorcycle, which will subsequently strengthen our position in the market.”
With Quartararo indicating that he will make a decision about his MotoGP future in the near future, Rivola emphasized that Aprilia will not rush into any decisions and instead prioritize the development of “a better bike.”
Given Aleix Espargaro’s loyalty to Aprilia, it is highly likely that he will receive a contract extension, having been with the team since 2017.
Furthermore, Maverick Vinales’ impressive performance at Portimao last weekend may have bolstered his chances of remaining with the team.
