Unai Emery has stated that his Aston Villa players will not succumb to pressure as they navigate the final stages of the Premier League season, highlighting their readiness for the upcoming challenges.
Villa had achieved 12 victories out of their first 17 Premier League games this season, with all three defeats occurring away from home. However, since their 2-1 triumph over Brentford eight weeks ago, Emery’s team has only managed two wins, earning eight points out of the 18 available in the last five matches.
After dropping out of the top four following a 3-1 loss to Newcastle at home, Villa reclaimed their place in the Champions League positions with a convincing 5-0 victory over Sheffield United last weekend.
The upcoming clash with Manchester United on Sunday will be crucial in shaping Villa’s season. A win would increase their lead over the Red Devils to 11 points, but a defeat would narrow the gap to just five points.
When asked if his players have the necessary qualities to maintain their form, Emery expressed confidence in their abilities during his latest press conference: “I have the same message for the players. We will always assess how we can handle each situation on the field and never feel pressured.”
He added: “We need to attempt to play. If you are actively participating and embracing the challenge, feeling well-prepared and confronting duels, there is nothing more.”
A victory for the Villans on Sunday would be a significant declaration of their intentions, considering the gap they could create between themselves and the current sixth-placed team, which happens to be their opponents this weekend, Man United.
