PHM Racing has made an announcement regarding the team’s lineup for the upcoming campaign in Formula 2 in 2024. They have revealed that Taylor Barnard will be partnering with Joshua Duerksen at the team. This completes the grid for the upcoming season.
Barnard will be returning to PHM, as he had previously raced for the German team in the Formula 4 UAE Championship, as well as in both the Italian and ADAC F4 series in 2022.
During his time with PHM, Barnard achieved notable success, finishing as the runner-up in the ADAC F4 series. He secured five victories and stood on the podium 10 times before moving up to Formula 3 last year.
In his debut season in F3, the 19-year-old competed with Jenzer Motorsport. His best performance came in the Belgian Feature Race, where he claimed victory. Overall, he finished 10th in the championship standings.
Barnard’s talent and achievements have not gone unnoticed, as he was nominated as one of the four candidates for the prestigious Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Award in September of last year. Additionally, he serves as McLaren’s reserve driver in Formula E.
Expressing his excitement, Barnard said, “I am thrilled to announce that I will be competing in FIA Formula 2 with PHM AIX Racing. This is another step towards my ultimate goal, and I am determined to be as prepared as possible. I will give my all and more to deliver strong performances.”
Roland Rehfeld, the Sporting Director of PHM AIX Racing, shared his enthusiasm about having Barnard on board. He stated, “The entire team is extremely pleased and happy to welcome Taylor. As the most successful driver from the PHM Academy, it is only natural to consider Taylor as the most promising option for success. He has proven himself through all the different racing classes with dedication, talent, speed, and technical precision. His efforts have yielded positive results, as he was the highest-scoring driver in the last three FIA F3 Rounds in 2023.”
Rehfeld also highlighted the partnership between Barnard and Duerksen, stating, “Taylor will be teaming up with Joshua Duerksen, and they have a strong rapport. As a relatively young team, PHM AIX Racing is fully aware of the competitiveness of the field in Formula 2. We are excited to have these two highly motivated rookies in the lineup, and we anticipate an improvement in performance throughout the season, with some pleasant surprises along the way.”
