On Monday, the Metropolitan Police announced that the crimson F512M, valued at approximately 350,000 pounds ($444,325.00), had been located within a span of four days. Ferrari had reported that this particular vehicle was being sold by a British broker to an American buyer. Following police investigations, it was discovered that the car had been transported to Japan shortly after being stolen from Imola, Italy, and subsequently arrived in Britain in late 2023.
The Organised Vehicle Crime Unit has stated that their inquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made thus far. Another Ferrari model, a silver F355 that belonged to Jean Alesi, Berger’s former teammate from France, was also stolen during the same weekend in Imola. Unfortunately, this car is still missing.
During the race in which Williams’ Damon Hill emerged victorious, with Berger securing third place, Alesi finished in second place. This marked the final season for the Ferrari drivers before the arrival of Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine.
Berger himself had witnessed the thief attempting to steal his car. Despite his efforts to intervene by fleeing from the scene and pursuing the culprit in a friend’s Volkswagen Golf, he was unable to prevent the car from escaping. (Reported by Alan Baldwin)
