Major League Baseball has announced that Billy Eppler, the former general manager of the Mets, has been placed on the ineligible list. This penalty will be in effect immediately and will continue until the conclusion of the 2024 World Series. According to the announcement, Eppler has violated rules pertaining to the “improper use of Injured List placements.” This includes fabricating injuries and submitting false documentation in order to secure multiple improper Injured List placements during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. The league’s investigation has determined that Eppler was solely responsible for this misconduct and that there was no involvement from the club’s ownership or superiors.
The Mets have also released a statement regarding this matter. They were informed of Major League Baseball’s investigation and consider the issue closed. With Eppler’s resignation on October 5, 2023, and David Stearns now leading the Baseball Operations team, the Mets will not provide any further comments on the situation.
