Italian driver Mirko Bortolotti of Lamborghini’s Iron Lynx team expressed his desire for the Italian manufacturer to compete with the top contenders in the FIA World Endurance Championship. However, he acknowledged that the team is taking a cautious approach and progressing gradually at the Imola race this weekend. Bortolotti emphasized the importance of learning from each outing and lap, as they strive to improve their performance. He highlighted the successful completion of races in Qatar and the IMSA championship, which demonstrated the car’s reliability. The ultimate goal is to be competitive and challenge the leading teams in the field.
Lamborghini’s SC63 Hypercar made its debut in Qatar, finishing in 13th place in the grueling 1812 km race. The team then traveled to the United States for the 12 Hours of Sebring in the IMSA championship, where they achieved a seventh-place finish on the lead lap. The team’s campaign continues at the 6 Hours of Imola in Emilia Romagna. Bortolotti started the weekend positively, recording the fourth-fastest time in the first practice session (FP1). However, he acknowledged that it is still early in the weekend and the team needs to maintain their performance and aim for a strong result.
Recognizing the challenge of competing against established manufacturers such as Ferrari, Toyota, and Porsche, Bortolotti stressed the importance of being realistic. Lamborghini is still in the early stages of its sportscar career and lacks experience in this field. Nevertheless, Bortolotti remains optimistic, citing examples of other manufacturers who have shown progress over time. He expressed his satisfaction with Lamborghini’s achievements so far in 2024, considering the limited development time for the car. However, he also emphasized the need to continue pushing forward and taking the necessary steps for improvement. Bortolotti is excited about the upcoming races, including their home race this weekend.
