Sergio Perez has been competing for the Red Bull Formula 1 team since 2021. The former winner of six Grand Prix races has faced numerous challenges since joining the Red Bull F1 team. Perez has struggled to match the dominance of his teammate and has often found himself playing second fiddle to him.
Observing Sergio Perez’s difficulties in keeping up with Max Verstappen in 2024, a former winner of the German VLN series has expressed the opinion that Perez is not deserving of a place in Formula 1.
Perez has accumulated a total of 46 points in the current season. The 34-year-old has been associated with Red Bull since 2021. Despite spending four years with the team, Perez has yet to present a significant challenge to the reigning world champion.
While Bradley Philpot has harshly criticized Sergio Perez in relation to his position at Red Bull, team principal Christian Horner has stated that there are no specific requirements for Perez to earn a contract extension. Horner believes that Perez must at least deliver performances that are somewhat comparable to Verstappen.
Perez achieved a fifth-place finish at the Albert Park F1 circuit. The Mexican driver possesses extensive experience in the world of motor racing. Although being a Red Bull driver has greatly benefited him in terms of improving his statistics, Perez has not fully capitalized on the opportunity of driving for a top team like Red Bull. In order to secure a contract extension with the Austrian outfit for 2025, Perez should aim to win several Grand Prix races this year.
