Bubba Wallace provides insight into the changes that NASCAR has undergone throughout the years. The lack of diversity has always been a significant challenge for NASCAR in its efforts to expand its market in the modern era of premier stock car racing. However, the sport has made significant strides in recent years, implementing projects that have allowed minorities to become more involved in the sport.
23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace, the only African American racer in the top-tier, has played a crucial role in NASCAR’s diversity initiatives. With two Cup wins and six Truck race wins, he is the most accomplished African American racer in the sport. Wallace has been instrumental in implementing changes, including the controversial decision to ban the Confederate flag.
During a recent interview, Wallace addressed the issue of fans booing him and discussed the changing landscape of diversity within the sport. He acknowledged that while he remains the only black driver in the top tier, there is now greater diversity behind the scenes, with more individuals from different backgrounds working as crew members and in other roles.
The U.S. Air Force will sponsor Bubba Wallace, and their partnership will be featured at the upcoming race in Dover. Wallace highlighted the new Flying Tiger paint-scheme for this week’s race, which pays homage to the old Warhawk scheme.
Although the 2024 season has been consistent for Bubba Wallace, he has yet to secure a race win since the 2022 Kansas playoff race. To secure a playoff spot this season, Wallace will need to improve his execution and elevate his performance. The race in Dover may present him with an opportunity to do so.
