The Carl Cox Motorsport brand will not be present in the Extreme E competition this year, but the team has already confirmed its plans to return for Extreme H in 2025.
The renowned DJ associated himself with the electric off-road series’ final team last season, taking over the entry that was previously known as XITE Energy Racing. The team consisted of Timo Scheider, Christine Giampaoli Zonca, and Lia Block, with Block taking over the female driver seat from round five in Sardinia until the end of the season.
“I consider myself to have a pioneering spirit. Whether it’s music or motorsport, I have always challenged myself to open doors and explore new opportunities,” Cox stated. “Being invited to bring Carl Cox Motorsport into the highly-anticipated Extreme H series that will launch in 2025 feels like a leap into the future. Over the next 12 months, we will be working closely with the Extreme E family to prepare for our championship campaign in the groundbreaking new car. Our goal is to win.”
Scheider and GZ achieved a podium finish in the first part of the Hydro X Prix in Scotland, and the team also secured a Redemption Race victory in the penultimate round of the 2023 season in Chile.
This season, Scheider will be racing for the new SUN Minimeal entry alongside former Abt Cupra driver Klara Andersson. On the other hand, Block will be transitioning to open-wheel racing full-time as a WIlliams F1 development driver. As part of this transition, she will be driving for ART Grand Prix in the F1 Academy series.
“It has been a pleasure to welcome Carl and his team to Extreme E. His passion for motorsport is contagious, and he has thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the championship, just as we have enjoyed having him with us,” stated Alejandro Agag, founder and CEO of Extreme E. “While Carl Cox Motorsport focuses on 2025, Carl will be closely following Extreme E this season as we work together to launch Extreme H and embark on an exciting new future for our series.”
