Anglo-American GT and LMP team United Autosports has finalized its driver announcement for the upcoming 2024 FIA WEC season. Josh Caygill, a former British Supersport motorcycle racer, will be returning to GT racing with the team. Caygill has been competing in LMP3 events for the past two years in the European Le Mans Series and Le Mans Cup. He will join Marino Sato and Nico Pino as part of United’s No. 95 McLaren 720S GT3 EVO.
Caygill expressed his excitement about racing in the World Endurance Championship with the McLaren. This will be his first season on the global stage, and he is thrilled about the opportunity. The opening race of the season in Qatar next month will mark Caygill’s return to GT racing since his participation in the 2021 Porsche Carerra Cup GB. Throughout his career, Caygill has competed in GT3 events such as the Blancpain GT Series, VLN, and 24H Series.
Richard Dean, CEO of United Autosports, praised Caygill as a valuable addition to their WEC team. He highlighted Caygill’s progress with the team over the past two years, including securing pole positions and podium finishes. Dean is confident that Caygill will fully commit himself to this new challenge alongside McLaren Automotive.
United Autosports has now completed its driver lineup for the 2024 FIA WEC LMGT3 category. Caygill, Sato, and Pino will share driving duties for the No. 95 car, while James Cottingham, Gregoire Saucy, and Nicolas Costa will pilot the sister No. 59 car. The driver roster for the inaugural LMGT3 season in the FIA WEC is now finalized, with three drivers assigned to each of the 18 participating cars.
