Dale Earnhardt Jr. expressed his desire for improved camera work from the Fox teams during the recent NASCAR Cup Series event in Atlanta. The race, known as the Ambetter Health 400, was a thrilling competition that resulted in the third-closest finish in the history of the sport. With a margin of just 0.007 seconds between the winner and third-place at the finish line, it was the closest top-3 finish ever recorded.
While Fox Sports, the official broadcaster for the first half of the season, received minimal criticism for their coverage of the event, there was one significant issue that needed to be addressed. NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. pointed out that the camera work from the Fox team was too focused and did not capture all the action happening on the track. He emphasized that there is a lot happening during a race and the camera shots should provide a broader view.
As someone who has worked as a broadcaster with NBC for more than five years, Earnhardt Jr. understands the importance of enhancing the TV experience for fans. He noted that NBC has been more successful in broadcasting races compared to Fox, highlighting the need for immediate improvement in camera work.
Despite his criticism, Earnhardt Jr. did acknowledge the team’s innovative use of graphics to display caution during the race. He commended Fox for their visual caution loop, which he mentioned in a post on social media during the live broadcast.
Looking ahead, Earnhardt Jr. is entering the 2024 season without a broadcasting role. His contract with NBC expired last year, and there have been discussions about a potential move to Amazon’s NASCAR coverage team starting in 2025.
