Dan Ige had hoped for a swift victory, and his wish came true.
In the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 236 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Ige (18-7 MMA, 10-6 UFC) faced off against Andre Fili in an anticipated featherweight bout. It proved to be an exhilarating contest for as long as it lasted, as Ige finished the fight just 2 minutes and 43 seconds into the first round with a knockout of Fili (23-11 MMA, 12-10 UFC).
Both fighters set a rapid pace from the beginning. They moved in and out with agility, searching for opportunities. As Fili extended a probing left jab, Ige delivered a powerful right hand from above, causing Fili to collapse to the canvas. Ige then followed up with another right hand to his fallen opponent before celebrating his victory.
The outcome signifies a return to the win column for Ige, who had his two-fight winning streak halted by Bryce Mitchell in September. Prior to that, Ige, also known as “50K,” knocked out Damon Jackson and secured a unanimous decision victory over Nate Landwehr.
More importantly, Ige can now shift his attention to his family, as his wife is expected to give birth at any moment.
“She’s probably in labor right now, so I had to make that one quick,” Ige shared during his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier.
