In Anaheim, California, Dana White insists that all is well between the UFC and Conor McGregor. However, is this truly the case?
Last year, McGregor made his return to the UFC through his role as a coach on Season 31 of “The Ultimate Fighter” alongside Michael Chandler. It was expected that the two coaches would fight shortly after the show aired, as has been the tradition. However, “TUF 31” concluded in August 2023, and there is no sign of McGregor’s return anytime soon. White recently stated that he is hoping for McGregor’s comeback in the fall, despite McGregor previously expressing his desire to be on the International Fight Week pay-per-view lineup on June 29 in Las Vegas.
So, what is causing the delay?
White explained that one of the initial obstacles was McGregor’s broken shin bone and his subsequent recovery. However, McGregor’s health no longer appears to be a concern, as he has shared numerous training videos in recent months. McGregor even expressed his hope to headline UFC 300 in April.
White’s second point about McGregor’s wealth complicating matters remains unclear. The UFC CEO mentioned McGregor’s commitments to promote the “Road House” remake, in which he stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. White emphasized that McGregor’s financial status poses challenges, but the promotion will be thrilled whenever he decides to return to the octagon.
McGregor still has two fights left on his UFC contract. When asked if negotiating a new contract with more fights was a problem, White praised McGregor as one of their best business partners. Although getting him to be punctual has been an issue, McGregor’s business acumen and professionalism have never been in question.
So, once again, what is causing the holdup?
