In regards to Arsenal’s prospects of securing the signing of Kylian Mbappe this summer, David Ornstein has stated that they are among the teams who would be delighted to have the Frenchman join their ranks.
Mbappe’s desire to depart from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season has captured the attention of all the elite clubs worldwide.
The French forward, who had the potential to smash transfer records, will become a free agent in the summer once his contract with PSG expires. This would make him the most expensive free agent in the history of football.
In the race to secure the services of the 25-year-old, Arsenal find themselves as the underdogs.
According to David Ornstein, in an interview with NBC Sports, Real Madrid are currently the clear frontrunners.
Nevertheless, he did suggest that numerous Premier League teams would eagerly sign him immediately if given the opportunity.
“Paris Saint-Germain has always believed that there was an agreement with Real Madrid. However, we are not yet aware of it. Real Madrid set a deadline in January for Kylian Mbappe to accept their contract offer, but that deadline has passed. Therefore, it is likely that he will have to accept a lower salary if he chooses to go there,” he stated.
“This may lead many to wonder about the Premier League. What about clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Manchester United?
“The truth is that the financial aspect does not align with their capabilities. They would love to make the signing. They would have the means to do so, in terms of their ownership. Just look at Newcastle, they could afford it. However, due to the Profit and Sustainability Rules that have caused problems for Everton, they simply cannot afford to meet the salary demands. Therefore, it would require Kylian Mbappe to lower his wage expectations or find alternative means to cover his payment. But the reality is that the general expectation is for him to sign with Real Madrid.”
It is evident that Mbappe is a true superstar. Whichever team secures his signature this summer will likely be positioning him for the peak years of his career.
However, any negotiations with other clubs would undoubtedly be conducted with the aim of securing a better contract at the Bernabeu if he is determined to join Madrid and Los Blancos are willing to acquire him.
Despite Mbappe being a free agent, the financial package he commands will be highly lucrative, and Premier League teams would need to allocate a significant portion of their budget towards his salary, bonuses, and signing-on fee.
