Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan have been close friends for more than ten years. Jordan, the basketball legend, is part of a prestigious circle of friends within the NASCAR community, with Hamlin being one of his closest companions. Together, they co-own the 23XI Racing team in the Cup series.
During the recently released NASCAR docu-series, NASCAR: Full Speed, a heartwarming story was shared by Denny Hamlin’s father, Dennis. It revolved around a gift that Jordan gave to him—an autographed cigar accompanied by a letter. In the letter, Jordan expressed his desire for Hamlin Sr. to smoke the cigar when his son finally achieves a championship victory.
Hamlin has had an incredibly successful career in the NASCAR Cup Series, with 51 race wins under his belt, including three Daytona 500 victories and numerous other prestigious races. However, he has yet to claim the championship title, often experiencing setbacks that prevent him from reaching his goal. A prime example of this was the 2023 season, where he dominated early on but faced inconsistency towards the end, ultimately finishing in fifth place in the championship standings.
The Netflix docu-series, which has gained popularity and currently ranks in the top 5 charts in the US and Canada, prominently features Hamlin. His willingness to open his doors to Netflix and allow them to capture intimate moments with his family has made him one of the central figures in the series.
Initially, Hamlin had concerns about how he would be portrayed in the series, as Netflix had full control over the editing process. However, after watching the final product, he expressed his satisfaction with the accurate representation of his character.
