UFC 298 is experiencing an unexpected change in its lineup.
Tresean Gore, the runner up in the middleweight division of “TUF 29,” has been forced to withdraw from the event due to a shoulder injury. Gore revealed this information through a series of Instagram stories on Wednesday.
One of the stories featured Dr. John Tokish from the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, who provided a detailed explanation of Gore’s injuries. These include a tear in the labrum, the presence of a paralabral cyst, and a likely separation of the AC joint at a Grade 2 level.
According to Tokish, it is unlikely that Gore will be able to fully recover and protect himself within the next 12 days.
Gore, who holds a record of 4-2 in MMA with a 1-2 record in the UFC, was originally scheduled to face AJ Dobson (7-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) on the preliminary card of UFC 298. This event is set to take place on February 17 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Expressing his disappointment, Gore shared his thoughts on Instagram, stating that the UFC did not clear him to fight. He initially planned to compete regardless, but his coach insisted on getting an MRI to ensure his safety. Gore expressed his confusion about the circumstances, but acknowledged that everything happens in God’s timing. He remains determined to pursue his dream and vows to return stronger than ever.
As of now, it remains uncertain whether Dobson will still be part of the card. However, he hinted at potential fight news through an Instagram post on Wednesday.
With this unexpected change, the current lineup for UFC 298 is as follows:
