Ducati has acknowledged that the competition for its second factory MotoGP seat for 2025 is between Marc Marquez, Enea Bastianini, and Jorge Martin – and has provided insight into its current thinking. The manufacturer is committed to Pecco Bagnaia on a two-year deal, but there is still speculation about who will be his partner going forward. Bastianini had a difficult first year with Ducati but has shown improvement and is currently in third place in the standings. However, Martin, who leads the championship, and Marquez, a six-time champion, have also been performing well. Ducati general manager Gigi Dall’Igna admitted that choosing between the three riders will be a difficult decision. He mentioned that they need to consider not only the upcoming races but also the riders’ histories. Dall’Igna has previously expressed support for Marquez joining Ducati, and there are rumors that both he and Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali are tempted by the idea of having a rider of Marquez’s caliber on the team. However, there are obstacles to overcome, such as sponsorship issues and the potential for Martin to leave for another manufacturer. Bagnaia, when asked about his preference for a teammate, emphasized that he wants to beat all of them and doesn’t have a preference. Martin expressed his desire to move up to the factory team, while Marquez stated that his goal is to fight for the championship and that having the newest equipment would give him a better chance. It remains to be seen what decision Ducati will make regarding its second factory MotoGP seat.
