Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz has received a recommendation to join either Mercedes or Red Bull Racing.
During the Formula For Success Podcast, Eddie Jordan quickly dismissed the idea of Carlos Sainz joining Sauber for the 2025 season.
Currently, thirteen drivers do not have contracts for the upcoming 2025 season.
Among this group is Alex Albon, whose team principal James Vowles has expressed his commitment for the following year. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if there is a break clause in his contract.
The most notable name without an agreement for the next year is Carlos Sainz.
Last season, the 29-year-old was the only competitor to challenge the dominance of the Red Bulls. However, Ferrari chose not to keep him.
This cannot be entirely blamed on Sainz; when a seven-time world champion like Lewis Hamilton becomes available, it is hard to ignore him.
Despite his family connections to the team, Jordan believes Sainz should aim higher for his next move.
Discussing potential destinations for Sainz on the grid, Jordan exclaimed, “This Audi rumor is absurd, guys, get a grip!
“We have seen Toyota, BMW, Honda, and many other big manufacturers; it doesn’t happen overnight.
“I don’t care who is involved.
“It’s complete nonsense! If Carlos [Sainz] wants an outstanding F1 career, he needs to wait for Mercedes, McLaren, Red Bull, or a similar team. He is talented enough.
“Not long ago, we started a season with Nico Rosberg, and no one believed he could compete against Lewis Hamilton, but he proved us all wrong.
“I see a significant similarity between Carlos Sainz and Nico Rosberg.
“He is in the shadows, incredibly talented, looks impressive, acts impressively, behaves impressively.
“In my opinion, he is already a great candidate because when the board makes decisions – remember, it’s not just Toto [Wolff], Zak Brown, or Christian Horner – other decision-makers are involved, and I believe Carlos Sainz has enormous potential; he will end up in a top team.”
Sainz will be hoping that Jordan’s predictions come true, as it would offer him better opportunities than just Audi.
Reports suggest that Williams holds him in high regard; if he were to replace Logan Sargeant, it would create a strong partnership.
Anthony Davidson appears certain that Sainz will join Sauber next year, emphasizing the uncertainty surrounding his future destinations.
