Kevin Estre from France, Andre Lotterer from Germany, and Laurens Vanthoor from Belgium drove the #06 Porsche Penske Motorsport car during the Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, which took place on May 9, 2024. This event was part of the FIA World Endurance Championship, and it was the third round of the championship.
During Friday’s FP2 session, Kevin Estre showed impressive performance by driving the #6 Porsche Penske 963 car to the top of the timesheets. His time of 2:04.162 around Spa was 0.121 seconds faster than Antonio Fuoco in the #50 Ferrari 499P. The Ferrari team is aiming to maintain the same level of competitiveness they had in the previous race at Imola.
The #2 Cadillac V-Series.R, with its two drivers, secured an impressive third place in the final order. Alex Lynn recorded a time of 2:04.341, ensuring that the top three positions were separated by less than two-tenths of a second. Kamui Kobayashi finished in fourth place, with a lap time of 2:04.883 in the #7 Toyota GR010 – Hrybid.
The Porsche 963 car performed well during the Friday afternoon session, which had cooler conditions compared to FP1. Callum Ilott in the #12 Jota entry (2:04.956) and Julien Andlauer in the #99 Proton Porsche (2:05.098) also achieved good results, finishing in fifth and sixth place respectively.
Brendon Hartley finished in seventh position, driving the #8 Toyota and completing a lap of Spa in 2:05.640. Robert Kubica, driving the ‘privateer’ #83 AF Corse 499P, secured eighth place with a time of 2:05.706.
Due to clashes with the FIA Formula E Berlin E-Prix, the #93 Peugeot 9X8 team had only two drivers for this weekend’s race. Mikkel Jensen drove the car during FP2 and achieved a time of 2:05.981, placing the team in ninth position.
The top ten positions were closely contested, with only 1.908 seconds separating the fastest ten drivers. James Calado, the winner of the Centenary Le Mans, posted the tenth fastest time of the afternoon, recording a lap time of 2:06.070 in the #51 Ferrari.
In the LMGT3 category, the Lexus RC F LMGT3 car, despite being an older model compared to its competitors, showed its capabilities. Clemens Schmid drove the #78 Akkodis-run car and topped the LMGT3 standings with a time of 2:21.257.
Sarah Bovy brought positivity to the Iron Dames team by finishing second in FP2. She drove the #85 Lamborghini Huracan LMGT3 Evo2 and recorded a time of 2:21.372. MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi completed the top three in the LMGT3 category, driving the #46 BMW M4 car run by WRT. He achieved a time of 2:21.745 and was motivated by his recent podium finish in Italy.
