Aprilia rider Maverick Vinales dominated the opening MotoGP practice at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas, while Marc Marquez had a solid start. Marquez, who has a strong track record at COTA with six premier-class wins, initially struggled but eventually topped the timesheets. However, Vinales, sporting a Batman tribute helmet, was consistently fast throughout the session and ended up with the fastest lap time. The track has undergone partial repaving since MotoGP’s last visit, which artificially inflated lap times in 2023 due to the format used at that time. Jorge Martin and Pedro Acosta were Vinales’ closest rivals in second and third place respectively. Enea Bastianini, the winner of last year’s race, had a strong start despite using used tires late in the session. Alex Rins, the defending champion, finished 13th in his first COTA session with Yamaha. The session saw one crash from Alex Marquez, who quickly got back on his Ducati and continued.
