Adam Montgomery is poised to depart Celtic at the conclusion of the season and is likely to have played his final game for the club.
The 21-year-old’s contract with the Glasgow giants is set to expire in June and he has yet to agree to an extension despite engaging in contract discussions with the club.
Reliable sources have informed us that it is becoming increasingly probable that the Hoops will allow him to depart the club without a transfer fee following a devastating injury setback.
Montgomery was loaned out to Motherwell last month for the remainder of the season, but the club has confirmed that he has returned to Glasgow after sustaining a long-term injury during training.
He made a solitary appearance for the Steelmen, providing an assist in their 3-1 victory over Alloa Athletic in the Scottish Cup on 20 January.
The Scotsman spent the first half of the season with English League One side Fleetwood Town, but only managed to make six appearances across all competitions.
Now, it appears that the left-back’s time at Brendan Rodgers’ side is coming to an end.
He joined Celtic’s academy in 2009 and has made 20 appearances at the senior level, contributing with one assist.
Montgomery has been loaned out on multiple occasions during his tenure at Parkhead, including a season-long loan spell at St Johnstone in 2022-23.
Celtic currently sit just three points ahead of Rangers, who have a game in hand, following their 1-1 draw against Aberdeen on Saturday (3 February).
Their next match will be against Hibernian at Easter Road on Wednesday night (7 February).
