Lando Norris, the winner of the race, celebrated in the parc ferme alongside Daniel Ricciardo. This victory marked a significant moment in the Miami Grand Prix paddock, as Norris secured his first Formula 1 win after numerous attempts. Taking advantage of McLaren’s recent upgrades and a well-timed Safety Car, Norris managed to outpace Max Verstappen and claim the top spot. Verstappen, despite being beaten, expressed his delight for Norris and predicted more victories in his future. He acknowledged Norris’ deserving performance and the emotional significance of a first win in Formula 1. Charles Leclerc also shared his happiness for Norris, recognizing his talent from their time in the feeder categories. He emphasized the special feeling that comes with achieving a breakthrough win and encouraged Norris to savor the moment. Carlos Sainz, Norris’ former teammate at McLaren, acknowledged the element of luck in Norris’ win but emphasized that Norris had been driving like a race winner for many races. Sainz believed that Norris deserved the win, regardless of any luck involved.
Former McLaren protege Lewis Hamilton is delighted to witness the success of the Woking-based team, as Norris secured their second victory since Hamilton’s departure in 2012.
“I experienced my first triumph with McLaren, so I’m extremely pleased to see McLaren back at the top. I believe Zak Brown and the entire team have done an exceptional job,” expressed Hamilton.
“I was part of McLaren from the age of 13, so I’m incredibly happy. They still hold a special place in my heart, so it’s truly gratifying to see them reclaim their position. Additionally, they have dethroned the Red Bulls.
“And for Lando, I know Lando quite well. We have a good relationship, and I understand how significant it is to achieve your first Grand Prix victory.
“So I couldn’t be happier for him. I genuinely hope that he can cherish this moment and enjoy it because it’s a monumental day.”
George Russell, who outperformed Norris to win the Formula 2 championship in 2018, believes it is uplifting for Formula 1 to witness Red Bull’s defeat for the third time since last season.
“Undoubtedly well-deserved, and I’m thrilled for him,” added Russell. “He has deserved a race victory for quite some time now.
“And I think for all the drivers in Formula 1, during this era of dominance from one team and one driver, it’s always fantastic to see someone else get the opportunity to claim a victory.”
Meanwhile, Daniel Ricciardo played a part in prolonging Norris’ wait to secure his first win as he led a McLaren 1-2 at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix.
However, the Australian, now with RB after leaving McLaren in 2022, admitted that he holds Norris in high esteem and it brought a smile to his face to witness his teammate’s drought come to an end.
“I’m genuinely thrilled for the young lad,” commented Ricciardo.
“As a teammate, you naturally get to know each other better, and I had the opportunity to get to know Lando well, even spending time together away from the track. He actually visited my farm in Australia this January, so I had the chance to spend time with him, and I really like him.
“I believe many of us felt it was only a matter of time until he had a day like this, but nothing is guaranteed in this sport.
“I’m delighted that he finally had a day like this, one that will forever be one of the most memorable days of his life.
“I’m pleased to see that smile on his face. It may not have been a great day for me, but witnessing him experience a day like this brings a positive ending. He’s a remarkable individual and deserves it.”
