Sergio Perez is currently working on persuading Red Bull to extend his contract for the upcoming season. Perez, who has been with the Austrian team since 2021, will see his Red Bull contract expire at the end of the 2024 F1 season. Despite a series of disappointing results last season, the 34-year-old driver has shown improvement this year. Recently, a former F1 driver revealed an incident involving Perez and Red Bull.
According to Robert Doornbos, Perez approached Red Bull and discussed his future with them after achieving a solid second place finish in a recent race, with Max Verstappen taking the top spot. Perez allegedly requested a three-year contract extension, but this demand was met with laughter from the team. Helmut Marko, an 80-year-old figure at Red Bull, rejected the request and instead proposed a one-year extension to ensure Perez continues to push himself in the next season.
In addition to Perez, Adrian Newey, a renowned car designer, is also nearing the end of his contract with Red Bull. Newey, who has achieved great success with Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, has been with the team for almost two decades. However, rumors of tensions between Newey and Christian Horner, the team principal, have emerged. Doornbos believes that Newey will not renew his deal with Red Bull, and there were even rumors of Aston Martin attempting to entice him with a lucrative offer.
Despite facing challenges in recent weeks, Red Bull’s on-track performance has remained strong. Max Verstappen’s dominance continued with another 1-2 finish in the last race. It remains to be seen if Red Bull can maintain this impressive form throughout the season.
