Adrian Newey, the Chief Technical Officer at Red Bull Racing, has recently been in the spotlight regarding his future in Formula 1. Aston Martin has been making efforts to lure him away from Red Bull for the upcoming year. However, Damon Hill, the 1996 world champion, has proposed an alternative option for the British engineer.
Hill suggests that Newey should consider joining the McLaren Formula 1 team based in Woking before the 2025 season. Newey had previously been associated with McLaren during the 1990s before joining Red Bull in 2006.
Newey is widely regarded as one of the top car designers in the world of motorsport. Under his guidance, Red Bull has been able to develop impressive machinery. In the current ground-effect era, no other team has been able to match the performance of Red Bull’s RB19 from last year and RB20 from this year.
While Hill presents McLaren as an enticing opportunity for Newey, he also takes the time to evaluate the team’s prospects for this year. McLaren is currently in third place in the Constructors Championship for 2024.
Furthermore, Hill believes that if McLaren and their team leader, [driver’s name], execute their development plans for the MCL38 flawlessly, they will pose a significant challenge to Ferrari for the second spot this year.
At present, Ferrari has accumulated 151 points in the Constructors standings, while McLaren has achieved 96 points. Although there is still a considerable gap between the two teams, it is possible for McLaren to close that gap in the next 2-3 races. The upcoming Miami Grand Prix will be of utmost importance for the Woking-based team.
