Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly have had a disappointing start to the 2024 season. The Alpine F1 team, much to everyone’s surprise, is currently in last place in the Constructors Championship after two races. This has raised concerns from former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan, who believes that the team’s current state is embarrassing. He has warned that both drivers could leave the team by the end of the year if improvements are not made. Ocon and Gasly are experienced F1 drivers who have previously won a Grand Prix, and Jordan believes it is time for Alpine to start delivering results for them.
Alpine’s A524 car is not up to the level required to compete with midfield teams like McLaren and Aston Martin. In fact, the team would be lucky if they can even compete with Williams, Haas, and the Stake F1 team in the upcoming Australian GP. The current situation is a cause for concern, and Jordan’s warning about potentially losing both drivers at the end of 2024 highlights the seriousness of the team’s struggles.
Ocon himself has acknowledged the team’s difficulties after the Saudi Arabian GP, admitting that there is no way to hide the French team’s struggles in Formula 1. Despite pushing the A524 to its limits, Ocon could only manage a 13th place finish. This indicates that there is a long road ahead for the Alpine outfit to improve their performance.
Looking at the team’s recent history, Alpine finished in a respectable fourth position in the Constructors Championship in 2022, but their performance dropped to sixth place last year. Given the ongoing struggles and the current trend, it is a real possibility that the team could finish at the bottom of the standings in the 2024 season.
