Ralf Rangnick, the ex-manager of Manchester United, faced challenges during his time at Old Trafford but he could be on his way to a prominent role at Barcelona.
Despite having a successful career and being well-regarded in Germany, Rangnick struggled during his tenure at United.
After Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure, Rangnick was appointed as the manager in December 2021, with a temporary position until the end of the season. The plan was for him to continue as a consultant for an additional two years.
However, Rangnick openly admitted his dissatisfaction at United, only managing to win 11 out of 29 games.
It was revealed that Rangnick had agreed to take on the role of Austria’s manager while still being in charge at United. As a result, he was unable to continue his consultancy work for the English club.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has been impressed by Rangnick’s achievements with the Austria national team, leading them to Euro 2024.
Following the announcement of Xavi’s departure from the Catalan club at the end of the season, Barcelona is currently in search of a new manager.
Rangnick has been mentioned as a potential replacement for Xavi at Camp Nou, according to the Spanish publication Sport. Laporta is reportedly considering Rangnick along with several other German coaches for the position.
Rangnick is still widely recognized for his ability to develop young talent and played a crucial role in RB Leipzig’s transformation into a Champions League team, despite his challenges in the Premier League.
Moving forward, the 65-year-old’s main focus will be preparing Austria for the upcoming European Championships this summer.
Another German manager who has been linked to the Barcelona job is Jurgen Klopp, the current manager of Liverpool. Julian Nagelsmann, the manager of Germany, and Hansi Flick, the former manager of Bayern Munich, have also been suggested.
