Formula E is set to introduce a new support series later this year, which will accompany the electric open-wheel championship at its European events and two events on the DTM schedule. The NXT Gen Cup, designed for drivers aged 15-25, initially started as a support series for the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship last year. However, it will now expand across Europe as Formula E’s first support series since the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy. The addition of an all-electric junior category to Formula E’s calendar aims to nurture young talent and provide them with the opportunity to race alongside top drivers and teams.
The NXT Gen Cup features a car called the LRT NXT1, which is based on the Mini Cooper SE. The car weighs 1150kg and is equipped with a 30kWh battery and 800 V system. It has 180hp, with an additional 60hp available through a push-to-pass system. The championship format consists of two 20-minute practice sessions (except in Monaco where there is only one), a 20-minute qualifying session, and a 20-minute race.
Fredrik Lestrup, the founder of the NXT Gen Cup, expressed his excitement about the series’ growth and its inclusion in Formula E and DTM. He emphasized the hard work put in by everyone involved and the opportunity the calendar provides for junior drivers to showcase their talents to top teams and partners.
Here is the proposed calendar for the 2024 NXT Gen Cup, pending FIA approval:
– April 13-14: Misano, Italy, with ABB FIA Formula E World Championship
– April 27: Monaco, with ABB FIA Formula E World Championship
– May 11-12: Berlin, Germany, with ABB FIA Formula E World Championship
– July 5-7: Norisring, Germany, with DTM

– October 18-20: Hockenheim, Germany, with DTM
