Pierre Gasly from France, a member of the Alpine F1 Team, expressed his desire to see the team address its struggles in 2024 before making a decision about his future in Formula 1. Alpine had anticipated a challenging start to the season due to the car concept overhaul on its A524 model. However, the team was taken aback when both of its cars qualified at the back of the grid in Bahrain, leading to revisions in the technical structure. Gasly, speaking at the launch of Alpine’s new car, remains optimistic that the Enstone-based team can fulfill his aspirations of contending for championships. Despite his contract expiring at the end of the season, Gasly does not believe that Alpine’s difficulties have made it more difficult for him to prove himself to other teams. He emphasized that regardless of his contractual situation, being at the back of the grid and unable to compete with his desired rivals is a frustrating position to be in. Gasly acknowledged that progressing in his career may be challenging in this situation, but he remains hopeful and believes that time will reveal the true outcome.
The former Red Bull driver asserts that Alpine must demonstrate its ability to address its weaknesses before the next regulation overhaul in order to persuade him to stay.
“For me, the most crucial aspect is understanding why we are not competitive enough and how to enhance the performance of the car,” he stated.
“A significant regulation change is on the horizon in 2026, and it is important to comprehend how to construct a car, make progress, implement effective upgrades, and maximize the potential of the current package, especially for the 2026 season.”
Currently in his second year with the Anglo-French team, Gasly has elaborated on his increased involvement within the team as he strives to contribute to its resurgence.
“I am fully committed and giving my all because I witness the immense dedication from the team members, and we all share the desire to be competitive,” he added.
“At times, I may be quite demanding and push for answers, but what I appreciate is that they are increasingly taking initiative and striving to find solutions on their own. I am someone who always pushes myself and seeks improvement in all aspects.”
“However, I also hold high expectations for the people I collaborate with, and I am pleased to see that they are embracing this mindset. In challenging times, we dig deeper and discover hidden potential.”
