Gasly, a member of the French Alpine F1 team, expressed his excitement about joining FC Versailles, stating that he has always desired to be involved in professional soccer. He sees this as the beginning of an incredible journey and is fully supportive of Versailles. Gasly will become a co-owner of the club, alongside Alexandre Mulliez, the grandson of Auchan multinational retail group’s founder, and his partner Fabien Lazare. The exact percentage of Gasly’s ownership was not disclosed by the club.
Established in 1989, FC Versailles currently holds the tenth position in the Championnat National, which is the third tier of French football. Their home matches take place at the Stade de Montbauron, which can accommodate 6,200 spectators.
Mulliez, who took charge of the financially struggling club last year, expressed his belief that Gasly’s investment will prove to be fruitful. Being a longstanding fan of Formula 1, Mulliez acknowledges the privilege of having Pierre by their side to assist in accomplishing their objectives.
Gasly is currently competing in his seventh full season in Formula 1. Unfortunately, the Alpine A524, the car he is driving, has proven to be slow and overweight during the initial two races of the season. Consequently, both Gasly and Esteban Ocon had to start the first race from the back of the grid and their performance in the race was disappointing, as they lacked the necessary tools to put up a fight. The same can be said for their performance in Saudi Arabia.
While Gasly hopes for success with his FC Versailles team, he will also witness the Alpine F1 team’s struggles, which are in a state of chaos and possibly experiencing their worst phase in history, if we consider their previous identity as Renault.
Le FC Versailles is proud to welcome Pierre Gasly, a French Formula 1 driver, as their third co-owner. 🤝
