LAS VEGAS – Gregory Rodrigues believes he is embarking on a new chapter in his professional journey, one that has the potential to lead him to the ultimate prize in the UFC.
Rodrigues (15-5 MMA, 6-2 UFC) secured a third-round TKO victory over the seasoned contender Brad Tavares (20-9 MMA, 15-9 UFC) on the main card of UFC Fight Night 236, held at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday. This win marked his second consecutive triumph and undoubtedly the most significant triumph thus far in his three-year tenure with the UFC.
The Brazilian fighter remains uncertain about what lies ahead, but he anticipates a significant opportunity on the horizon.
Reflecting on the situation, Rodrigues stated, “If you observe how Dricus Du Plessis began his journey with Brad, and how he diligently worked his way up to the title, it serves as an inspiration for me.” He continued, “While I am unsure of the UFC’s plans for me, I am content with their efforts thus far. I have already proven that I am worthy of being amongst the elite.”
Rodrigues refrained from calling out any specific opponents and expressed his confidence in the UFC’s ability to provide him with more challenging competition.
Regarding his recent victory, Rodrigues believes that he is reaching unprecedented heights in his fighting career.
“Throughout my eight fights, I have witnessed tremendous growth within the octagon,” Rodrigues shared. “I feel at ease when I step into the cage, especially when facing opponents like Brad, who possess a wealth of experience. While experience and numbers may hold significance, they do not define everything. I see a greater version of myself emerging, positioning me favorably at this moment. I am immensely grateful.”
