Next month, HBO and the Max streaming service will release a documentary that tells the story of IndyCar champion Dan Wheldon’s life and tragic death. Titled ‘The Lionheart’, the film pays homage to Wheldon’s fearless personality and driving style. From 2002 to 2011, Wheldon competed in IndyCar, achieving 16 victories, including two Indianapolis 500 wins, and winning the series championship in 2005. However, his career was cut short when he lost his life in a devastating crash during the 2011 season finale at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The documentary also delves into the lives of Wheldon’s surviving family members, particularly his sons Sebastien and Oliver, who are now aspiring racers themselves. Sebastien has recently been announced as a driver in the USF Juniors series, which serves as a stepping stone for young drivers aiming to reach the pinnacle of motorsports. ‘The Lionheart’ initially premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2023 and will now be available to a wider audience through the Max streaming service, which can be accessed in the United States, many South American countries, and soon in various parts of Europe.
