Daniel Ricciardo’s primary objective since returning to the racing scene has been to secure a spot in the Red Bull team. Helmut Marko, the advisor for Red Bull, has discussed what Ricciardo needs to do in order to replace the current driver at Red Bull. Ricciardo is eager to join the Austrian team’s lineup starting in 2025.
Ever since making his return, Ricciardo has expressed his desire to drive for the team led by Red Bull. However, there are numerous obstacles in his path as there are several other contenders vying for the same seat.
Helmut Marko, a key figure in the Red Bull team, understands the importance of the second seat alongside their main driver. Therefore, he has revealed the requirements for Ricciardo to secure the seat for 2025. In a conversation with Motorsport-Total.com, Marko stated, “Ricciardo has to demonstrate that he can clearly outperform Tsunoda. Only then will he be considered as a candidate.”
Marko, an 80-year-old veteran of the sport, has made it clear that Red Bull expects Ricciardo to outperform his teammate comfortably this year. Failure to do so will quickly eliminate him from contention for the coveted 2025 seat.
As the Bahrain Grand Prix approaches, all eyes will be on Ricciardo for several reasons. People, including those from VCARB and Red Bull, will be intrigued to see how he performs alongside the unpredictable Tsunoda throughout the entire season.
Additionally, Ricciardo’s performances in 2024 will be closely compared to those of Red Bull’s Mexican driver, Sergio Perez. If Ricciardo can consistently outperform the inconsistent Perez in a VCARB car, it will greatly improve his chances of securing the 2025 seat.
However, the upcoming campaign could also mark the end of Ricciardo’s time in Formula 1. If he fails to meet expectations, there is a possibility that Ricciardo may retire from the sport after the 2024 season.
