Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull Racing in Formula 1, has expressed his frustration with the attention his family has received in relation to the investigation into his alleged misconduct. Ahead of the 2024 F1 season opener in Bahrain, Horner was cleared of the allegations by an external barrister. However, the story has not ended there, as reports suggest that the complainant has been suspended until further notice. During a press conference in Saudi Arabia, Horner addressed questions about the investigation and the reported suspension.
Horner explained that there is a confidential grievance process within the company, and he is unable to discuss the details due to the restrictions imposed by confidentiality agreements. He acknowledged that the attention surrounding the investigation has been challenging for his family, as it has been heavily focused on them. Horner also mentioned that some individuals in the competitive world of Formula 1 have sought to benefit from the situation, which he described as an unsightly aspect of the industry. He emphasized that the process being followed is internal to the company and not an issue for the FIA or Formula 1 as a whole.
Furthermore, Horner highlighted the intrusive nature of the unfolding story on his family, particularly his wife Geri, who often accompanies him to races. He acknowledged that the situation has been difficult, especially when children and other family members are involved. Horner emphasized that the grievance was handled in a professional manner by the owners of Red Bull Racing, Red Bull GmbH, who appointed a reputable independent investigator to look into the matter.
“He dedicated time to thoroughly investigate all of the facts. He conducted interviews with all of the individuals involved, as well as others of interest. He examined every aspect of the situation. With all the information at hand, he reached a conclusion that dismissed the complaint.
“For both myself and Red Bull, we are ready to move forward. Our focus is now on the future.
“Throughout this ordeal, my wife has been incredibly supportive, as have my family. However, the intrusion into my personal life has reached its limit.
“It is now time to redirect our attention to the reason we are here, which is to participate in Formula One racing.”
Horner emphasized that due to a “leakage,” a “private and confidential matter” has received extensive coverage in the press and media.
He expressed gratitude to Red Bull’s partners for their unwavering support during the development process and reiterated his commitment to looking ahead, highlighting the endorsement of three drivers in the all-female F1 Academy series.
“Now, it is crucial to focus on the track and our primary objective, which is racing,” he stated.
“We have been fortunate to have incredible partners who have stood by us during this challenging time. The team, the company, and the 1600 individuals within our group deserve my gratitude for their support.
“Today, we witness the Formula One Academy coming to life with the assistance of various teams.
“Within the Red Bull Group, we have three drivers and three cars involved. We have also announced new partners who have joined the sport. It is time to shift our attention to the Grand Prix and discuss the cars and the drivers.”
