The Kansas City Royals and their talented shortstop, Bobby Witt Jr., have reached an agreement on a lucrative contract extension. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the deal is valued at an impressive $288.7 million and spans over a period of 11 years. However, there is also an option to extend the contract for an additional three years, potentially bringing the total length to 14 years. MLB.com’s Anne Rogers adds that Witt will have the opportunity to opt out of the agreement after the seventh, eighth, ninth, or tenth year. The three-year option itself is worth a staggering $89 million, which would push the total value of the contract to $377 million if exercised. It’s worth noting that The New York Post’s Jon Heyman suggests the final figure could even reach $377,777,777. This news comes after reports from Robert Murray of FanSided indicated that the Royals and Witt had been engaged in discussions regarding a contract extension. Stay tuned for further updates.
