Kyle Busch may be in for yet another disappointing finish in the Cup race on Sunday. Richard Childress Racing’s driver arrived at the Texas Motor Speedway with the goal of regaining momentum after a significant drop in performance over the past four races. However, his hopes for a successful day seem to be slipping away as he was unable to even complete a qualifying lap.
During the practice session, Busch crashed out and was unable to participate in the qualifying session. As a result, he will start the race from the 35th position, alongside another driver who also crashed during practice. When discussing what lies ahead for him on Sunday, the two-time Cup champion acknowledged that it will be challenging to move up the track due to passing difficulties at TMS.
Busch’s track record at Texas is impressive, with four victories in his career. However, he has struggled in the Next-Gen era, starting three races since 2022 and achieving a best finish of 21st, which occurred in a race where he started on pole. The practice session crash may be indicative of his current performance trend.
The No. 8 Chevy team provided Busch with a fast car for the weekend, but it experienced significant balance issues. After a few quick laps, the Chevy became tight, causing Busch to make contact with the wall. As a result, the team will be using the backup car for Sunday’s race.
The 2024 season has been a nightmare for Richard Childress Racing thus far. The team has been uncompetitive in all the races, and their pit-stop execution has been disappointing. RCR is in desperate need of a moment of brilliance from their drivers or engineers to identify and address the issues plaguing the team.
