Formula 1 introduced sprint races in 2021 to enhance the entertainment throughout the weekend. The decision-makers initially tested the format by organizing three sprint weekends across the 2021 season, but it has now doubled for this year. However, this change has not been well-received in the paddock as multiple drivers have expressed their dissatisfaction with the format, with Lando Norris being the latest addition to the list.
Norris is widely known for his strong opposition to sprint races. However, Formula 1 does not seem to have any intention of reducing the number of sprint races in the near future and is even planning to increase their frequency in the upcoming seasons.
As a result, this development has not been met with approval by Lando Norris, who shared his perspective on the matter.
The British driver stated that he prefers the traditional race weekend format over the sprint race format. Furthermore, he revealed that the sprint race format is solely for the enjoyment of the fans and does not bring any excitement to the drivers participating in it. From Norris’s point of view, he would rather revert back to the old ways of doing things if he had the power to make decisions.
The 24-year-old has been performing at a high level in recent seasons. Additionally, Norris has been the sole McLaren driver to achieve a podium finish in the current season. This difference in results and pace has raised concerns among experts regarding Norris’s lack of success in the MCL38.
When asked about the reason behind Norris being overshadowed by his teammate, an explanation was provided.

The American team principal explained that Norris has significantly more experience than Piastri, which is the cause of the difference in pace. Furthermore, Norris has now mastered the skill of tire management, which is a challenging task during races. This is an area where Piastri will continue to learn as he progresses in his career.
In addition to this, the McLaren team is aiming to perform well in Miami. The team has announced their plans to bring upgrades to the American circuit and is hopeful of challenging for second place in the constructor standings.
