McLaren and Norris have had a satisfactory start to the 2024 season. The team based in Woking had high hopes for the event. They were expected to be closely trailing Ferrari in terms of race pace. Unfortunately, Norris missed out on earning a few points in the sprint race due to Aston Martin’s actions.
During the Sprint race, the McLaren driver began from P9, positioned behind the two Aston Martin cars. Norris had a strong start as the five red lights extinguished. The British driver attempted to overtake on the outside of Stroll and his teammate. However, Stroll made contact with Norris, causing the MCL38 to spin out of the race.
Lando Norris’ car came to a stop in the designated area. The McLaren driver had no choice but to abandon the vehicle as his chances of scoring points vanished. On the other hand, Lance Stroll returned to the pits to retire his AMR24 due to the damage sustained in the incident.

Norris exited the MCL38 and made his way back to the pits. It should be noted that the Safety Car had been deployed following Norris’ retirement. However, the FIA expressed dissatisfaction with the Briton’s decision to walk on the track during the session. Consequently, race control will be investigating this choice.
The Briton will be hoping to put this incident behind him before Qualifying. Norris’ teammate finished the sprint in P6, earning McLaren two points. However, the team from Woking will be focused on repairing Norris’ car before the next session in just a few hours.
Undoubtedly, Lando Norris and McLaren have faced a setback. However, Norris has demonstrated promising speed. As a result, the British team can anticipate qualifying in the Top 6 for the main race. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that the main race on Sunday will be highly competitive.
