Former manager Jesse Marsch of Leeds United has expressed his belief that the club acquired some players with great potential during his tenure at Elland Road. Marsch defended his transfer record during his time at Leeds and emphasized that the signings were a result of collaborative decision-making, rather than solely his own choices. Despite Leeds’ relegation last season and Marsch’s subsequent sacking, the American coach still believes that the club made wise signings of players with promising futures, including Luis Sinisterra. Sinisterra has since departed the club, joining Bournemouth after a loan spell, leading Marsch to suggest that Leeds may have made an error in letting him go.
“I was pleased with all the players we brought in. And when I say ‘we,’ I understand that in England, we often attribute transfers solely to the manager. However, we did not operate in that manner as a club. We made decisions collectively,” Marsch explained. “Although it may appear that these were my transfers due to the involvement of Americans and some Red Bull players, internally we all believed that players like Luis Sinisterra, Marc Roca, and Willy Gnonto met the standards of our desired style of play and had the potential for significant development.”
As Leeds United continues to make strong progress under the leadership of Daniel Farke, who took charge at Elland Road this summer, the team is now striving to secure promotion back to the Premier League.
