The Marlins have made some significant changes to their organization recently. They have just announced the hiring of Sara Goodrum as their new director of special projects. This news was initially reported by Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald before the official announcement. In addition to Goodrum, they have also brought on former MLB player Brandon Mann as a pitching strategist. This hiring was previously reported by Craig Mish of the Miami Herald. Lastly, they have confirmed the hiring of Sam Mondry-Cohen as their vice-president of player personnel.
Goodrum comes to the Marlins after spending the past two years working for the Astros. She joined the organization in late 2021 as the director of player development but parted ways with them in October. Prior to her time with the Astros, she worked as a minor league hitting coordinator with the Brewers.
Mann, on the other hand, had a brief stint in the major leagues as a pitcher, appearing in seven games for the 2018 Rangers. Since then, he has worked as a pitching coordinator for the Lotte Giants in the KBO and has spent the past two years with Driveline Baseball.
These hires come as part of the Marlins’ efforts to restructure their baseball operations department. Following the departure of general manager Kim Ng, Peter Bendix was brought in as the president of baseball operations. He has since added Gabe Kapler as assistant general manager and Rachel Balkovec as the director of player development.
